Best place to take your dog for a walk nr water

"I went for a walk on Sunday down to Twyford water meadows. The Hampshire Wildlife Trust have finished rebuilding this section of the towpath alongside the Itchen Navigation. ‘Moz’ the dog had a great time trying out the new ‘dog dips’ that they have put in just below Compton Lock."

"The Navigation was originally constructed in the late seventeenth century to carry chalk, aggregates, coal and timber, you can still see some of the sluices and locks that were used to control the water levels. On the adjacent water meadows the undulations in the ground of the old water meadow system are still evident."

"On the way back we stood on the bridge for a while watching the trout in the river. Wish I had remembered to bring some money with me so we could have popped into ‘Bean Below’ in Twyford, for a nice cool drink and a piece of cake.’
