How this holiday makes a difference
Environment
Brockenhurt is one of the New Forest destinations that benefits from excellent rail links. Just a ten minute walk away from the station or a short taxi drive, Daisybank is suitable for a car-free, two-wheeled or two-legged stay! Our itineraries include a number of walks and bike routes that can be started from Brockenhurst plus many that can be easily accessed by public transport.
We operate a strict recycling regime, ensuring that all recyclable waste is recycled. Much of our food waste is fed to our chickens, who particularly love the bacon rinds, which we are sure they think are worms!
We use wherever possible low energy lighting, during the refurbishment the cottage was insulated to a high standard and an energy efficient boiler was installed. All our toilets have a low-flush option to reduce water consumption. The original 1901 outbuilding has the potential to site photovoltaic panels, which we are currently investigating as part of a development of this wonderfully quirky and quaint outbuilding.
The restoration of Daisybank, used local interior designers, tradesmen and craftsmen. Where possible local and locally sourced materials were used.
Community
We serve an officially accredited 'New Forest Breakfast' which includes at least three items of local produce, free range and where possible organic. Our eggs are either from our own chickens or local New Forest producer. Our sausages , preserves and tomatoes are all local and when in season our strawberries are grown in Beaulieu. We bake our own soda bread and cupcakes.
In the rooms the Biscotti and chocolates are both locally made, our toiletries are from Willow Organics based in Lymington and our friendly knitted teddies have come from 'Bear it in mind' in Beaulieu. The room key fobs are made of Hazel from coppiced woodland as is the bird-table in our garden.
We actively recommend local businesses in and around Brockenhurt, building up meaningful relationships with them, ensuring that the local community benefit from our endeavours. Local pubs, eateries, activities and places of interest are all listed within our guest information, often brought to life by our personal experience and knowledge.
The interior design of Daisybank has incorporated local artists and craftspeople throughout. Local photographer Paul Close is featured in our hallway, Exbury based renowned artist Caroline de Rothschild's colourful floral painting, greets our guests at breakfast. Each of our rooms have locally made decorative features and our garden furniture is both made of local wood and is locally made in the New Forest. We have a commitment to showcase local artisans throughout Daisybank and tell our guests about them!
